Despite a plane delay of one day, the 2011 participants arrived from Niger on June 28th and immediately left for retreat on the Illinois/Wisconsin border. There the twelve of us, five Nigeriennes and seven Americans, spent four days together. The girls jumped into their first lake within 5 minutes of arrival. Two days later, they were canoeing in the Nippersink, biking in a school parking lot, and eating their first ice cream in Richmond, IL.
We also shared family pictures, worked on English and French, cooked and ate together.
Like family.
