Well, it’s that time of year again. Summer is coming and everyone at Expanding Lives is gearing up for our summer conference and all the activities planned for the girls coming this year. One major event everyone should be sure not to miss is our annual 5K run/walk fundraiser.
Expanding Lives has hosted a 5K fundraiser for a few years now. It is held on June 30th, in the summer so that the Nigerien girls coming for the conference can participate in it as well. It is coordinated by the EL Junior Board and every year we try to out-do ourselves in what we have planned for the 5K. This year, it will include some delicious free food to keep you going, great raffle prizes, and of course, a chance to meet the fabulous Nigerien girls that make EL what it is. Also included this year is the chance to sponsor a CPS student to come and participate in the 5K in an effort to encourage exercise and physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle for inner-city students.
Our 5K is one of the biggest fundraisers EL holds all year, and is an integral part of the effort to keep Expanding Lives programming going strong. Last year we raised enough money to fund one entire girl to go through the conference! Not a runner? Not a problem. Walking the course is still tons of fun. We’ve had young kids and older folks and everyone in between come out to our 5K. And if you’d like to help out in other ways, donating cool raffle prizes is always a big help!
